Statement by the Honourable Leona Aglukkaq, Minister of Health-Marketing of Tobacco to Children and Youth
June 28, 2010
"Marketing tobacco to children and youth is unacceptable. Since taking office, our Government has worked to protect Canada's children from the dangers of tobacco.
Last October, we successfully passed legislation cracking down on tobacco marketing and products aimed at youth. This law protect Canada's children.
It has recently become apparent that some tobacco companies are attempting to find ways to circumvent this law in an effort to continue profiting from endangering the health of youth. Not only does this action go against the intent of the legislation; it endangers the health of Canada's children.
We will deal with this issue and will continue working to ensure that Canada's children are protected from the dangers of tobacco."--from website.
