Website 15 and falling
A campaign launched by the Nova Scotia Department of Health to make youth aware that smoking is becoming "uncool" as only 15% of youth in Nova Scotia smoke. Youth can post links to YouTube videos of things have become unpopular on this website.
Monograph Tobacco policy issues : focus groups report
Report of the results of 5 focus groups across Alberta, on developing provincial tobacco control policies. Among their findings: there was support for some form of tobacco control; support for the denormalization of tobacco use; there was a strong belief that any legislation would be self-enforced.
Article Denormalization of tobacco use and the role of the pediatric health-care provider
Tobacco dependence usually begins during the critical teenage years, and pediatric health care professionals can help their young patients to see tobacco use as undesirable: through direct communication with patients and their families; by providing information and referrals for tobacco prevention and cessation programs; by setting personal examples of a tobacco-free lifestyle; and by advocating for stronger public policies aimed at reducing tobacco use and exposure.

Article Do adult focused anti-smoking campaigns have an impact on adolescents? : the case of the Australian National Tobacco Campaign
Australian adolescents had awareness of a graphic, health effects, cessation focused anti-tobacco campaign targeted at adults, and they also found it to be applicable to them. For example, 85% thought it provided a less cool and desirable image for smoking and 27% of established smokers decreased the number of cigarettes consumed.

Article Interpretations of smoking in film by older teenagers
Film is an excellent outlet for advertising to and influencing youth. Tobacco use in film has become more widespread. This study surveyed youth regarding their thoughts and feelings on tobacco use in film. The responses were favorable for the tobacco companies, as many youth felt that smoking in film was effective in creating characters, mood, etc.

Contains lesson plans for grades 9 and 10 teachers. Students will learn about tobacco industry messages, media and advertising, tobacco use, addiction and decision-making and refusal skills. Eight lessons are included. When ordered in print format, the Tobacco Industry's Poster Child teaching poster is included.
Article Adolescent perceptions of smoking imagery in film
Explored how adolescents interpret and decode smoking imagery in movies. The majority of subjects were predominantly nonchalant towards the inclusion of smoking images in film, seeing an unrealistically high prevalence of smoking amongst peers and adults.

A booklet designed to help health units and other organizations develop a youth–led, adult-guided path to tobacco prevention and awareness. This guide shows how youth can examine the facts, express their thoughts and expose the truth about tobacco.
Multimedia You are the future of tobacco : expose the truth about tobacco [CD-ROM] = L'avenir du tabac, c'est toi : exposez la vérité au sujet du tabagisme
This CD-ROM contains a power-point presentation aimed at youth describing the power of the tobacco industry and how youth are being targeted as replacement smokers. It also offers some short videos, all asserting the dangers of tobacco smoking and all addressing denormalization of the tobacco industry.

This kit is comprised of several pieces: a light-weight knapsack; "exposé : a how-to guide"; CD case; black silicon bracelet; exposé CD that contains a PowerPoint presentation on the exposé program, plus information on the exposé website and previous winners of exposé Mass Media Contests.
Website Sick of smoke
This Nova Scotia site is targeted towards youth and covers such areas as, among others, the perceptions and realities of the effects of smoking, and industry information. In addition to a forum message board, the site includes the new 2005 sick of smoke television and cinema ads that are available for viewing.
Multimedia Teenagers [videorecording]
This short video from Norway’s denormalization campaign demonstrates how the tobacco industry targets youth and emphasizes their importance to the future of the tobacco industry. An industry executive is impersonated here in this clip stating: "They've got lips. We want them".
Monograph Getting to the truth : assessing youths’ reactions to the truth and 'think. don’t smoke' tobacco countermarketing campaigns
The truth campaign increased youth’s alertness of tobacco control advertising. During the first ten months of the campaign, more youths had seen at least one Legacy ad than had seen one Philip Morris prevention ad. Counter advertisements detailing industry manipulation or health effects were more effective than refusal skill messages, among other findings.

Young people candidly relate their personal experiences with smoking in this video. Many discuss why they started and state their regrets about doing so.
Website Smoking sucks
The Alliance for the Control of Tobacco (ACT) in Newfoundland has created a website aimed at teenagers that looks at different aspects of the tobacco industry. Includes both a national and international perspective.
