The federal tobacco control strategy (FTCS) : a framework for action

This strategy is designed to target all Canadians, with special regard for youth, young adults, and Native Peoples. There are four key strategy areas: protection, prevention, cessation, and harm reduction, which are upheld through the use of mass media campaigns and public education.

This framework has become the basis for many tobacco control efforts in Canada. The strategy recommends four goals: prevention, cessation, protection and denormalization. Also discussed are five strategic directions: policy and legislation, public education, industry accountability and product control, research, and building and supporting capacity for action.
