This document highlights the progress made by the Alberta Tobacco Reduction Strategy (ATRS). Progress was made in decreasing cigarette sales, lowering the prevalence rate among youth and young adults, keeping contraband at a mininum, reducing costs to the Alberta healthcare system, and launching antismoking campaigns.

This report measures Alberta's progress in achieving its tobacco strategy goals. The Alberta Tobacco Reduction Strategy (ATRS) was launched in 2002 to reduce tobacco use in Alberta. This document reports the progress towards achieving ATRS’s goals and states that tobacco use in Alberta is declining, with a smoking rate of 20%. Alberta also has approximately 100,000 fewer smokers than there were in 2001.

Launched by the provincial government in 2004, the Smoke-Free Ontario Strategy, aims to reduce tobacco consumption in Ontario, by focusing on public education campaigns, programs and policies aimed at youth and young adults to encourage them not to start smoking, protection from exposure to secondhand smoke, and programs to help Ontarians quit smoking.
Building On Our Gains, Taking Action Now : Ontario's Tobacco Control Strategy for 2011 – 2016
The Ministry of Health Promotion and Sport established the Tobacco Strategy Advisory Group (TSAG) in March 2009. TSAG's membership include experts in tobacco control from non-governmental health organizations, health profession organizations, and public health communities. TSAG's report outlines recommendations to the government regarding the future of tobacco control efforts in Ontario.
