Packaging

Document Actions

Plain packaging (also known as generic packaging) has been on and off the radar in Canada since the mid-90s. Plain packaging involves stripping the tobacco pack of any branding possibilities, by:

  • Specifying colour and paper type;
  • Standardizing font and font size;
  • Removing brand logos; and
  • Increasing the size of health warnings.

The “Light and Mild” descriptors of cigarettes were used by industry to deceive people who smoke about the danger of smoking certain cigarettes. These terms have been phased out in Canada since the late '00s.
