Secondhand smoke has an adverse effect on the quality of air, particularly in enclosed spaces. Smoke-free spaces are the only way to ensure people are not exposed to it.

Ventilation is often proposed as a solution to smoke-free spaces, generally with industry backing. Much research has been done around the world on the effectiveness of this solution.
