Smoke-free restrictions have been implemented in a wide variety of spaces.

Workplaces, then bars and restaurants, as well as casinos and bingo halls, were some of the first public spaces to go smoke-free.

Vehicles have been a recent success story in Canada, with several provinces enacting legislation within a very short time frame.

With bans in such important spaces accomplished, advocates are looking at a variety of new spaces:

  • Multi-unit dwellings;
  • Schools (secondary and post-secondary)
  • Health care facilities (e.g. hospitals, nursing homes)
  • Outdoors (e.g. parks, beaches, playgrounds, sidewalks)
  • Sporting events
