How to Search This Site
Please note: All searches are case-insensitive.
| Technique | Description |
|---|---|
| Globbing | An asterisk(*) signifies any letters. Tues* matches Tuesday and Tuesdays. |
| AND operator | Signifies that both search terms must exist to be returned as a result. |
| OR operator | Signifies that either search term must exist to be returned as a result. |
| NOT operator | Signifies that the search term must not exist to be returned as a result. |
| Phrases | Phrases are grouped with double quotes (" ") and signify several words one after the other. "welcome page" matches This welcome page is used to…, but not Welcome to the front page… |
| NOT phrase | Phrases can be specified with a leading minus sign(-) which signifies that the phrase should not occur to be returned as a result. "welcome" - "welcome page" matches all pages with welcome in them but not those with welcome page in them. |
CCTC Tobacco Control Thesaurus
The CCTC Tobacco Control Thesaurus is a vocabulary of standard subject terms (or keywords) arranged in a hierarchy. The CCTC Library Team uses it to index and describe all documents entered into the Tobacco Control Reference Catalogue (TCRC).
It is based, with permission, on the UCSF/ANRF Tobacco Documents Thesaurus and updated to include new terms and as well as terms relevant to tobacco control in Canada.

| Article | Research and reports from peer-reviewed journals. | |
| Contact | People involved in tobacco control who have consented to make their information public. | |
| Document | Documents can contain any kind of information. | |
| Event | A scheduled meeting, or conference, or seminar. | |
| Misc. Item | If it doesn't fit anywhere else, you'll find it here. Includes items like stickers and kits. | |
| Monograph | Monographs include books, reports, brochures and pamphlets. This type of record contains information about items complete in one part, or intended to be completed in several parts. | |
| Multimedia | This is information about e.g. a poster, or a video clip, or a CD-ROM. | |
| Organization | Denotes groups working in tobacco control. | |
| Program | Descriptions of tobacco control programs running internationally, with a focus on Canada. | |
| Serial | Peer-reviewed journals, newspapers, magazines. This type of record contains information about continuing resources, usually numbered, with no fixed end date. | |
| Topic | A pre-set search set to run on the Tobacco Control Reference Catalogue (TCRC). | |
| Website | Information about a website or webpage promoting tobacco control. |
RSS Feeds 
RSS stands for Really Simple Syndication. If you have an RSS reader you can click on the RSS symbol to sign up for automatic updates from our site, also called a "feed".
You’ll find on the results page after you’ve performed a search. If you click on that icon, you can subscribe to the feed for that particular search, and you’ll be notified every time we enter a new record that has those keywords. You’ll never have to do that search again.

Browser Requirements
CCTC.ca is best viewed with a screen resolution of at least 1024x768. At 800x600, the menus will not display correctly.
For this site to function at its best, we suggest the most recent version of Windows Internet Explorer or Mozilla Firefox. Most, but not all, of our site’s features will also work with older versions of these browsers, as well as many other browsers such as Chrome, Opera and Konqueror.
Links to Other Websites
Most of our links to other websites open in a new window, called a results window. Clicking on a link, then, will result in CCTC.ca remaining displayed and a second webpage (or browser tab) opening. Every time you click on a link, it opens a new page or tab.
